Book Ramblings: The Grimm Legacy

The Grimm LegacyThe Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Elizabeth is having a hard time adjusting to her new school. On top of her best friend moving away, she’s had to end dance lessons and switch schools because of her stepsisters’ college tuition bills. Elizabeth’s eager to take the job her social studies teacher recommends after she impresses him with her paper on the Grimm brothers. She goes to the New York Circulating Materials Repository expecting a traditional library job.

Her job examination shows the job to be something else entirely when Dr. Rush has her sort buttons multiple different ways. Elizabeth finds out the repository lends all sorts of different things, including a wig of Marie Antoinette. Patron requests travel by pneumatic tubes (like banks sometimes use but more elaborate).

The other pages her age are an unusual cross section. Anjali is beautiful, meticulous, and friendly. Marc Merritt is the popular star of the basketball team. Aaron is an intense, detailed worker who insists on rules and his distrust of Marc. When magic items from the Grimm Collection are discovered to be stolen and replaced by fakes, the four of them must discover who is the thief. Unable to trust the adults around them and saddled with suspicion and two younger siblings, their tentative plans are ripped asunder when Anjali goes missing.
